At Ormiston Specialist Centre, we believe that access to the right specialist shouldn't be complicated. This is why we've brought together a comprehensive range of specialist health services all under one roof in South East Auckland. Whether you're managing an ongoing condition, following up a GP referral, or simply wanting expert advice, the care you need is close to home and under one roof.
With such a wide range of specialties available at our centre, here is the range we offer and how they could be able to assist you.
For patients considering a long-term solution to weight management, our bariatric team provides surgical weight loss options in a private, comfortable setting at Ormiston Hospital. Bariatric surgery is a permanent, evidence-based treatment that helps people achieve significant and sustained weight loss when diet, exercise and other weight management approaches have not provided lasting results. Depending on the procedure, it works by reducing the size of the stomach and changing how the body regulates hunger and fullness. If you're exploring your options, a consultation with one of our bariatric specialists is a great place to start.
Our breast surgery specialists offer a range of procedures including breast augmentation, breast reduction, and treatment for gynaecomastia (enlarged breast tissue in men). Whether your concerns are medical or personal, our team can provide you with expert and personalised care in a supportive environment.
Did you know that your skin is your body's largest organ? We think it deserves expert attention. Our dermatology service is led by Dr Chin-Yun Lin, a highly experienced Mohs micrographic surgeon with extensive practice across New Zealand and Australia. Dr Lin treats everything from stubborn acne and eczema to melanomas and skin cancers, as well as psoriasis, pigmentary disorders and cosmetic dermatology concerns. If you've noticed a changing mole, persistent skin irritation, hair loss, or a condition that isn't resolving on its own, a dermatology consultation is worth considering.
ENT covers a wide range of conditions affecting the ear, nose, throat, head and neck. Our ENT specialists, Dr Joe Earles and Dr Justin Wong, diagnose and treat conditions including chronic sinusitis, hearing disorders, tonsil issues, and more complex issues requiring procedures such as septoplasty, rhinology, laryngology or facial reconstructive surgery. If you've been struggling with persistent symptoms in this area, a referral to one of our ENT team is a sensible next step.
Digestive health affects far more people than we often realise. Our gastroenterology team covers the full spectrum of digestive disorders, from reflux and IBS to bowel cancer screening, liver disease, gallbladder conditions and more. We also offer FibroScan, a quick and non-invasive test to assess liver stiffness and fat content. If you're experiencing abdominal pain, changes in bowel habits, unexplained weight loss or anything that doesn't feel right, please talk to your GP about a referral or contact us directly.
General surgery encompasses a broad range of surgical procedures across the upper and lower digestive tract, thyroid and endocrine glands, and vascular system. Many procedures are now performed laparoscopically (with keyhole surgery), meaning less pain, better outcomes, and a shorter recovery time. Our team of general surgeons offers expertise across bariatric surgery, colorectal surgery, breast surgery, upper GI surgery, endocrine surgery and vascular surgery which provide personalised treatment plans based on our world-class knowledge.
Our gynaecology team offers a complete women's health service encompassing general gynaecology, gynaecological oncology, minimal access surgery, female incontinence, pelvic floor reconstruction, and urogynaecology. Whether your needs are routine or more complex, our consultants provide compassionate, specialist-led care. A GP referral is recommended for most consultations, though our team is happy to guide you through the right pathway for you.
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a specialist field that addresses conditions of the mouth, jaw, facial structures and neck. Our specialists are skilled in managing cleft palates, jaw reconstruction, facial trauma, dental implant surgery, jaw-joint conditions, and complex dental extractions. If you've been referred for anything relating to the face, jaw or oral structures, you’re in great hands with our team who are experienced in navigating even the most complex cases.
Ormiston Specialist Centre is home to one of the most comprehensive orthopaedic services in South East Auckland. Our orthopaedic surgeons treat the full spectrum of musculoskeletal conditions from sports injuries and sprains to hip and knee arthritis, spinal conditions, hand and shoulder disorders, foot problems, carpal tunnel syndrome, and even complex oncology-related procedures. Whether you're an athlete recovering from injury or a patient managing arthritis, our team covers every stage of life.
Our plastic and reconstructive surgery team offers a comprehensive range of cosmetic, reconstructive and hand surgery procedures. These include facelifts, eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty, tummy tucks, liposuction, breast augmentation and reduction, skin cancer excision, scar revision and hand procedures such as carpal tunnel release and trigger finger correction.
A newer addition to our services, Shear Wave Elastography is a fast, non-invasive ultrasound-based technique used to assess liver health measuring both liver stiffness (a marker for scarring or fibrosis) and liver fat content. The test takes under 10 minutes, requires no needles or sedation, and provides results that allow for timely treatment or lifestyle changes. It's particularly valuable because liver disease often shows no symptoms until significant damage has occurred. Book a consultation with our gastroenterology team to discuss whether this test is right for you.
For patients exploring regenerative and restorative medicine options, our stem cell therapy service is led by leading expert Dr Hassan Mubark. His work includes fat-derived expanded stem cell treatments, platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections with or without hyaluronic acid, and Durolane injections. If you're managing joint pain or looking for innovative treatment options beyond traditional approaches, book a consultation to explore what may be possible.
Our urology team provides cutting edge, patient focused care for both male genitourinary tract disorders and female urinary tract conditions. Our specialists take a compassionate, individualised approach to diagnosing and treating the full range of urological conditions. Talk to your GP about a referral, or book a consultation directly with our team.
Vascular surgery focuses on conditions of the arteries and veins. This is everything from varicose veins and spider veins to more serious conditions such as aortic aneurysms, carotid artery disease and lower limb arterial disease. Our vascular surgeons bring expert knowledge to a dedicated service, providing advice and treatment for a wide range of vein and artery conditions. Ask your GP for a referral
or book a consultation directly.
How to See a Specialist at Ormiston Specialist Centre
For most specialties, the first step is to visit your GP and ask for a referral. This helps ensure you're directed to the right specialist for your needs. However, for some services you're welcome to book directly without a referral - just reach out to our team if you’d like to find out more or be directed to a specific specialist.
Once your referral is in place (or you've booked directly), our team will be in touch to confirm your appointment. You'll be seen by a specialist at our purpose-built centre in South East Auckland, with convenient parking and short wait times.
